afterclass records classes at your gym so you can watch them afterwards. That means we hold video of you training, and a few things about your membership. This page says exactly what, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to make us change or delete it.

Who we are

afterclass is run by Aythera, in British Columbia, Canada. We decide how the information described here is used, and we are the ones accountable for it under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.

Your gym is our customer. They decide which of their classes are filmed and who may use the app, and their staff can see their own gym's footage. But the information is held by us, and a request about it can come straight to us: gyms@aythera.com.

What we hold

Your account

Your email address and your name.

Your membership, from your gym

Your gym's booking system tells us your name, your email address, your member number there, and when you checked in for a class. That is how the app knows which classes were yours.

Recordings of classes

Fixed cameras at the gym record scheduled classes, with sound. They record the mat, not the changing rooms or any other part of the building, and they record only during a scheduled class.

What you do in the app

There is no advertising in afterclass, no analytics or tracking software of any kind, and we do not sell information about you to anyone.

Face matching

To work out which classes to show you, and to suggest who appears in a recording, we compare faces in the footage against a reference photo. The result is a suggestion with a confidence score that a person reviews — it is never used to make a decision about you on its own.

This is switched on unless you turn it off, and the reference photo may be one you did not give us for this.

If you have uploaded a profile photo in the app, we use that. If you have not, we use the photo your gym already holds for your membership — which you gave them to administer your membership, not for face matching.

You can turn face matching off at any time, in the app or by emailing us. When you do, we delete the face data we derived from your photo rather than just marking it unused, so you stop being matchable. We keep a record that you turned it off, and when, so we can show the request was honoured.

Minors

Gyms run classes for under-18s, and those classes are recorded and can be watched in the app like any other.

Consent for a minor to be filmed is obtained through the gym from a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian can withdraw it at any time by contacting the gym or us, and we will stop showing that footage.

A parent or guardian has every right described under what you can ask us to do on their child's behalf: to see what we hold, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted.

Sharing a clip

You can turn a clip you saved into a video file and send it to someone — through your phone's usual sharing, to a message, to social media, or saved to your photos. We make the file, and the copy we made is deleted after 30 days.

Once you have sent it, it is wherever you sent it. We cannot reach it, change it or take it back.

A clip usually has other people in it. Everyone on the mat agreed to their gym filming the class; they did not agree to appear in something you post. Please think about who else is in a clip before you send it on.

Who else can see it

Where it is held

In Amazon Web Services' Canadian region, in Montreal. Footage is encrypted where it is stored, and the connection between the app and us is encrypted. Nothing is stored outside Canada.

How long we keep it

You can ask us to delete any of it sooner. See below.

What you can ask us to do

Under British Columbia's privacy law you can:

Email gyms@aythera.com and we will answer within 30 days. There is no charge.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia at oipc.bc.ca.

Changes to this page

If we change what we do with your information, we will change this page and change the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will tell members in the app rather than relying on you noticing.
